Our Anniversary Weekend to Celebrate

On the 9th of July we will be celebrating our 1st Anniversary! I want to take this time to thank everyone who helped us celebrate, whether they got the chance to be at the wedding or not. We had a truly wonderful day and I would relive it anytime if I could.

Anyways, this past weekend David and I took the 2 days to celebrate! David let me plan everything, so he was subject to my idea of celebrating ;). On Saturday we left the house around 1030 and headed on our way to Coronado Island.  We were lucky and didn't get stuck in too much traffic on our way down. The drive across the Coronado Bridge and through the island itself was so beautiful!

The houses on the island are pretty interesting. One side of the island overlooks the SD harbor and cityscape. The other side overlooks the Pacific Ocean. I don't know which would be better to have.

So after finding some street parking on the island, we found ourselves a spot on the beach. It was in a relatively quiet area away from the bigger crowds. First thing we enjoyed our picnic lunch. I made yummy sandwiches and brought pretzel bites and pudding cups. Oh yes, pudding! :)  After that we made a go at getting into the water. If you haven't been to CA, the ocean here is pretty chilly. David made it most of the way in, I made it to my stomach before I stopped. The trick is to stay in long enough to feel your toes again and then it gets better.

We laid around for awhile enjoying the cloudless sky! Then David finally got me to bury him in the sand ;)

After cleaning my sandy husband off, we headed to our hotel to check in. The US Grant. The lobby is gorgeous! Our room was cozy and had some really cool touches to it. I am glad we ventured out from the normal hotel chains to stay here. Also being within downtown SD the parking is limited and we did Valet with the hotel. It was nice to be spoiled for a couple days and not searching for our car.

After we checked in and cleaned up from the beach, we settled into bed for a movie and also got ready for dinner. We had dinner at Flemings Steakhouse. It was delicious and they did a couple special things for our anniversary. We shared the calamari appetizer.  I had Filet Mignon with rissoto and it was so good! David had a peppercorn steak with green beans. We shared two sides also, and it was so much food but nice to treat ourselves! After dinner we planned to go to a Dueling Piano bar nearby, but actually fell asleep until about 11. So we just stayed in and watched another movie.

Sunday we woke up early and went to the San Diego Zoo. I love the zoo and this one didn't disappoint. We had to wait around to see a couple animals, but the Monkeys and Apes were definitely our favorite!  They put on quite a show. The Gorillas and Orangutans would sit right next to the glass and eat or just stare at the visitors.

Overall it was a great weekend with my lovely husband! We needed some time out of the house and doing special stuff together. This week we both only work two days because of the holiday. Hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July and I will write back later this week! Love you!
